Delete User and the integrity of the database

When deleting a user the following warning is displayed:

It is higly recommended that you unauthorize the users account instead of deleting to maintain the integrity of the BugNET database. Unauthorizing the account will keep the user information intact but will not allow the user to log into the application. You can re-authorize the account at anytime if necessary from the user details page

I'm a bit neurotic and hate keeping accounts I know are not going to be used.  What is the reason for this message?  Is it only applicable if they have created issues?  Is it a problem to the extent that if all roles were removed and no comments were made, files uploaded, issues created, etc that the user shouldn't be deleted?

Thanks,

Jason

I believe the biggest reason for the message is that it will delete any data associated with that user, so any issues that the user is assigned, comments, attachments etc that the user created.

Re: Delete User and the integrity of the database

Thanks for the quick reply.  That is what I was hoping you would say.  I was taking the warning of database integrity literally, as in deleting a user may leave orphaned issues, etc and the app may bomb when encountering them.  Cascading deletes can come in handy...

Thanks again,
Jason

Re: Delete User and the integrity of the database

I had the same issue with deleting users.

I created the following SQL script to reassign calls from an old user to a new user.

I created a new user called OLDSTAFF and i moved all the issues and assignments and history from the old staff members over to the user OLDSTAFF.
