What is "Display Name" used for?

I noticed that there's a "Display Name" that I can fill out, but I can't find anywhere it's used. Everywhere I see only my username, which because I'm using AD auth, is an ugly <DOMAIN>\<username> string. I'd be happy to provide a patch, if it's desirable...

The ability to display  the users display name instead of the username will be in the next version.

I don't think I will be able to add this in the next release.  Putting more thought into it I would like to improve the membership and profile handling and this will require time.  I hope you can wait a bit.  This feature is very important though and will definitely be in the release that follows the next.
