Hello all (and Davin),

Does anybody have any will to add support to MySql (in addition to SqlServer). I asked that a while ago (2 yr now...) for pure curiosity, but we are now thinking of moving to Linux/Mono our servers - that would be great to open BugNet to that world too.

I've began to migrate the DB but that takes time and I'm lacking some knowledge about stored procedures (in both DB engines). So if anybody is willing to contribute...

I was about to forget: thanks to all contributors (and especially Davin) for this very nice project!!

Regards,

Chris

Hi Chrisman,

I spoke to a chap in the Corporate Sales department at MYSQL about this.

He sent me a very valuable link

This is a white paper: "A practical guide to migrating from MSSQL to MYSQL"

http://www.mysql.com/why-mysql/white-papers/mysql_wp_mssql2mysql.php

Also he sent this link:

http://www.mysql.com/why-mysql/migration/

Looks straight forward enough.  Even the stored procs have just minor syntax changes.

I am planning to migrate a commercial project over to MYSQL so I am working through these, it would be really wonderful if we could get BugNET working on Mono and MYSQL!!

Oh Yes as part of the MYSQL GUI toolkit there is a migration tool built in. Have not tested it yet.

ChrisMan,

I may be coming late to the party, but I, too, was thinking about building a provider for MySQL. Have you made any progress? I was looking at the DB Resource Providers, and it looks like it is really tightly-coupled to SQL Server. This could be a bit of a roadblock. Also, it looks like the SQLDataProvider class is now in a folder called Old_App_Code (in the 0.8 trunk). Any idea what the plan is with data providers going forward? Any help you can provide would be appreciated. Maybe we can collaborate on a solution?

Regards,

-Darren

Hi Darren,

I actually started the migration, not using Mysql's toolkit (too limited for stored procedure) but using another tool (from www.ispirer.com in its eval mode, if I remember well). That looked promising but I didn't have time to complete and, since it was for an old version of it, I'm afraid my work is all useless now. I remember I liaised with ispirer and they agreed either to convert the full DB for me or to give a free limited licence (can't remember, I didn't keep the emails).

Well, I'm still interested in the migration, even if I still have limited time. If you want to work on it, I'll second you. Would you?

Chris
