Embedding BugNET into dot net nuke...
When perusing the sourceforge catalog, I stumbled across this project. I (dimly) remember having seen it before, and like the new web site, etc.

Upon a closer look, I noticed that the team is using dot net nuke for this site. The wheels in my head began spinning such that i just had to ask a question here.

I maintain a bug tracking system for a small software company, and currently use mantis. Its a great program, but I would love to use another tracker like BugNet...If it could embed into our company's dot net nuke site.

It always seems as if many open source bug tracking system insist on building their own membership and administration system. The end result being (with the 15 different web applications i maintain) 15 different login systems. What I love about dot net nuke (or other similar portal systems) is that the membership system is already being taken care of.

MY IDEA:

Build a BugNET module for dot net nuke.

I think its a pretty good fit, and shouldn't be that far fetched from a coding standpoint.

Obviously you guys have dabbled in dot net nuke enough to get a sense of its "plug and play" usefulness (as have i). Can you imagine plugging BugNET into this very project site? (btw, this site has a very nice look and feel to it...kudos to the designer)

TO THE DEVS:
How feasible do you think this is? The delivery method for DNN modules is .ascx files. I have built a few custom DNN modules now, and have successfully used Web Application Projects in VS2005 to build them. I haven't looked under the hood of BugNet (idea just occurred to me) but i don't imagine it would be too difficult to do this. Could this potentially be a subproject? Is it possible to have simultaneously the current monolithic BugNET server version, AND bindings to embed it into a DNN environment?

Submitted for your consideration,
-ee-

Re: Embedding BugNET into dot net nuke...
Hi,

I am a huge fan of the nuke and have been using it for a while now, not just on this site but various others as well.  Before starting the latest version 0.7.X of BugNET I highly considered building the project into a DNN module.

Although I feel it would provide substancial benefit to build a DNN module of BugNET I believe the time was better spent on working on core issue tracking type functionality and releasing a new version under .net 2.0.   I also weighed the options of maintaining a DNN module and the regular code base and feel it is better to integrate the two.

The one task that is on the back burner is to allow integration not only with DNN but various other systems by building a set of web services for BugNET and allow users to override the membership system.

Of course, this isn't the highest priority right now as we move the project to .Net 2.0 but I am eager to see BugNET be able to integrate nicely with various CMS and portal systems and other applications like Team System.

Here is the issue that is reported for this.

Thanks.
