Re: XML Parsing Error - 0.7b1 Install
hi there, I've got the same issue - tried forcing the file to ascii to remove wierd characters, then recoded back to utf8 to match the specified encoding - still no joy... doesnt even work if the file is unchanged from the install package (I'd expect it to throw a db error but it doesnt even get that far!) Initially I tried viewing the page in FF - the error is a firfox error inidicating an empty xml file - trying the same 'installer.aspx' page in IE yields an empty document.

Anyone got any ideas? I've tried downloading the source but the project fails to load properly and I really dont have the time to fix it right now...

Re: XML Parsing Error - 0.7b1 Install
ok, annoyed... decided to pitch in and get it working.. I d/l ' ed the latest source installed the prereqs, compiled it up and ran the installer - all OK. [ docs for compilation from src are here:  http://bugnetproject.com/Default.aspx?tabid=57&pageid=12&pagename=

My problem still exists however - I can view the site fine in cassini  but when brosing normally to the vdir it b0rks..

anyhow, I'll continue to post my experiences here for others, it does look good in cassini!

Re: XML Parsing Error - 0.7b1 Install
Hello.  I had the same issue when I tried to install on a Windows XP work laptop with FireFox.  So, I tried to install at home (XP and FireFox also) and got the same error.

Here's the rub: I believe it is due to a file permission issue.  I had problems deciphering the file sharing Group that I was supposed to use.  At first I got the parsing error.  After I added a couple of accounts and played around with file sharing, I got the file sharing error page.  I figured out the correct account to give access to and I was in business.

I'm about to dive into the code tonight and figure out how this thing works, as I believe it will be very useful to me.  I can't say for sure, but it appears that the installer makes some changes to the webconfig or some other files (machinekey? etc?).  If the installer can't write to the file then I think this parsing error shows up.

Anyway, I got the error and resolved it without changing anything but the file permissions and the connectionstring in the webconfig.

Hope this helps!

Re: XML Parsing Error - 0.7b1 Install
ok... got it working - finally....!

My problems stemmed from:

  • Incorrect perms - the config files need write access for ASP.NET
  • Dodgy connection string

BUT. These problems were compounded by the lack of feedback from BugNET on the installer page and also the lack of a file based logger for log4net.

Anyhow... I got it working and it's very nice now it's working :-D

Thanks guys, I may well pitch in with some dev support

Re: XML Parsing Error - 0.7b1 Install
Hi, I have a same issue when I attempted to install BugNET 0.7b1 to the shared host (it works fine on the localhost). The support assured that my app (BugNET) holds Read/Write access. I could not understand the reason of this issue. What do I do wrong? Any suggestions?

Thanks.
