HI

In the administration mail setup area.  It has fields for both SMTP and POP.  Is there anyway to setup email to send email via POP3 only.  If I leave the SMTP field blank I get an error when mail is sent.  When I fill it in emails are sent via SMTP, my hosting company is having problems sending SMTP and has told me to send via POP only

SMTP is  outgoing email and POP3 is for incoming email (accepting bugs through a pop3 email account).

It is strange that your hosting company would tell you to use pop3 for outgoing email.  In any case BugNET only supports outgoing mail by SMTP.

Perhaps SMTP is listening on a TCP POP3 port number (TCP 110) on another server?

Try configuring the SMTP port as POP3, but only if your pop3 servername is different from the smtp servername.

Perhaps you just need to enable smtp authentication too.

Thanks for the help and suggestions.

The problem was with the hosting company.  They finally agreed to take another look at it and said try it now.  No explanation... It just works now.  I guess if we never had problems we wouldn't need bugnet :)
