Presentation and questions on 0.7.0

Hello everybody, this is my first post so I'll present myself and explain why I decided to subscribe to this project.

I've "met" Bugnet two weeks ago by means of the Italian Programmers Community I'm part of, our community leader installed it on the community server because we are developing a new site (after 10 years it's a must) and all the contributors need to know what has to be done to be able to get an issue and solve it without need to contact the rest of the people involved.

As soon as I saw this software running I decided it is something I need also for my job. I am the Chief developer and one of the owners of a small IT company, and an Issue tracker will be useful in all our departments. Said so, I downloaded it and installed on our server, now we are testing it and we found it useful from the first day on.  We also have already some things we want to add and modify, so, I decided to register to this forum to be able not only to report issues and ask for features but, if allowed, to develop and propose these features for submit to the project owner.

Now the 0.7.0, i see it's almost ready to be released, and because we are just starting the use I propose us to beta test it if you want, and help debug it. I saw you have some trouble with the DB scripts to upgrade databases, well Database Administration is one of my main activities so, I don't need automatic scripts to upgrade the database, I can do it by hand just given the new structure.

For now I thank you for the great job you have done until now,

bye Sabrina

Re: Presentation and questions on 0.7.0
Hi :)

My case was very close to your one - I also have search for issue tracker for our small IT company, and BugNet appeared pretty nice for me.
I found it a month ago, and played with it.
And I also decided here is no reason to install and learn 0.66 while 0.7 will be so soon.
As it was not released at the and of October, I just get sources from SVN and compile/install myself. There were some troubles, by all of them were resolved, thanks to Davin. As far as I can see 0.7 works stable already.

So you can just get the sources too and run it.
I think testers are the one particular thing that all developers are needed always :-)

Hi Sabrina,

I am glad to hear that you have found a use for the issue tracker in your company and that people are enjoying it.

Help is always welcome and as the project grows we will definitely need more help anyway you can.  Testing the new version would be very helpful and miracle has already been helping me hammer out some issues.   If you would like to help out with new functionality after the release then we can do that as well.

Cheers,
Davin

Re: Presentation and questions on 0.7.0
0.7 is not released yet, so there no link to it in download section.

But it still can be downloaded directly from the SVN
Repository address is   https://svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot/bugnet/trunk

If you didn't use SVN before I recommend to read about it and also learn it first - it's just a great Versioning System and free of charge. May be you also found it usefull in your community/business.
Nice free and easy-to-use Windows SVN client is TortoiseSVN. It can be dowloaded from http://tortoisesvn.net/

To read about subversion you can use help in TortoiseSVN which is easy and still detailed .
Or you can read the book about SVN itself (more in-depth view of svn itself) - http://svnbook.red-bean.com/
