I spent a few weeks trying to find a free open source issue tracking system that was powerful enough to make the lives of my developers easier while at the same time being easy enough for management to see the status of their projects. Most issue tracking systems are geared towards techies, which unfortunately leads to extremely cluttered and convoluted UIs. I really like the attention that has been paid to the UI of BugNET. This product looks much more professional than the alternatives out there. There are a couple of enhancements I'd like to see in BugNET which if they appear would make this product perfect from my point of view.
First, I'd like to see the display name of the user appear instead of their login name. My organization uses Active Directory, which means our usernames are in the format DOMAIN\Username. This really affects the useability of the system because we can't tell from the username who is actually working on an issue. Since knowing who is working on what is a pretty important part of issue tracking I'd say this is a big deal.
I saw a previous post by someone else mentioning this, and the developer response was that this will take a while to be released. I hope it can be released prior to .8 because otherwise I may be pressured to switch to a different issue tracking system.
Second, I'd like to see progress bars in the issue list like FlySpray. That system has the issue list my users want - only the important info, and a progress bar showing the status of the request. Just knowing an issue is in progress isn't all that helpful to people interested in the issue. They want to see at a glance how much longer it will be before the issue is resolved. FlySpray's approach to that - letting developers enter the percent complete on the issue screen, then showing a progress bar in the issue list - is a wonderfully user friendly means of accomplishing that.
Overall I really like BugNET and appreciate the time and effort the development team has put into this product. With the above feature requests - user friendly usernames, more detailed issue status - I'd say you will have the best issue tracking system available.
