Very slow to save issues...

Hello,

My bugnet platform is very slow to save a new or an existing issue. All other task are fine (issue search, display, deletion; report creation; etc.). Saving a basic issue (little data, no attached file) takes approx 7-10 sec...

Any idea of what's wrong or where I could start digging into?

Many thanks

Chris

Re: Very slow to save issues...

I should have precised that I've only 1 project and approx 100-200 issues in the DB already. So it's small... And I didn't customize anything on that bugnet platform.

Solved but... (Very slow to save issues)

I solved my issue. The problem came from the fact the mail server through which BugNet sends its issues notifications was no more accessible.

So one suggestion and one question:

  • Suggestion: place the code to send the email on a secondary thread, so that the GUI don't get frozen. That should be very easy to do.
  • Question: Is there any global setting (per user, per project or per web site) to avoid to send email notifications each time an issue is created or updated? I cannot find any through the GUI or in the .config files...

Regards,

Chris

Thank you for the suggestion , I will add this improvement to the roadmap for the next release.

There is currently no setting to disable email notifications at any level but this would also make a good improvment.

Re: Solved but... (Very slow to save issues)

Just wanted to say THANK YOU, ChrisMan for posting what your actual resolution was.

My install started going really slow and even failing to "go" at all, running good for a few short minutes after restarting the web site/app pool.  I looked at the SMTP server after reading your message and realized it had been stopped.  Clicking the start button and now everything seems to be going smoothly again.

Hopefully this really was the culprit.  Again, appreciate it.

As an alternative, maybe BugNet could be configured to use the pickup folder if it's not already?  That way, sending a message will only be writing a file rather than attempting to send realtime.
