Feature Request: Custom field from SQL View

Custom fields are great, but I already have a database full of my customers, and I'd love to be able to associated a bug with a customer through a drop down list. May look into this myself, but would it make sense to introduce another custom field type: DropDownListFromView, which will be populated using a View in the database which can then be constructed by the implementer to pull data from wherever and map it to the Value and Name of the custom field?
